Geoff & Katie: Wedding Day!

What a tremendous delight it was to be part of Geoff and Katie’s wedding day. Their day was filled with meaningful, well-thought-out details, the wonderful support and love of their family and friends, and also the beauty of simplicity. It was also REALLY cold–a beautiful, sun-filled, blue sky day, but darn stinkin’ cold! You may catch a glimpse of me in the first look time-lapse with my down coat and gloves on, while Katie is wearing her beautiful, strapless dress. (Don’t look too close, you might spot some goosebumps =)). No complaints from these two (or their family and friends who we drug outside as well) just great attitudes, excitement, and pure joy.

These two (above and below) are my faves…

I have only been to mass a couple of times in my life so I’m not quite certain all the normal practices. There were two parts of the ceremony that were especially beautiful from my perspective. First, during communion Geoff and Katie stood at the front of the church and, as each family/individual/couple/group came up, they spoke a blessing over them.  I have no idea what they said, but it had a personal feeling to the process. And second, one of the bridesmaids, Kerry, gave a tremendous blessing to the couple, joined by everyone else witnessing the marriage as they extended their arms in participation. The words were powerful and purposeful. I hope you guys get a copy of that blessing so you can read it and be encouraged by it every day!

A couple of other details: these guys sewed cloth napkins which were set at each plate and were gifts for each guest… and also found the time to put together a booklet of all the wedding guests AND write a paragraph about each person/family. How thoughtful is that?!

The first dance didn’t last too long before…

…Dad cut in

So Geoff’s mom and the rest of the wedding party jumped in. So fun!

Okay, seriously another awesome part of the wedding was the dessert buffet. Various family and friends were asked to bring desserts and they all looked incredible. Unfortunately (and I may still be a little bitter about this ;-)), dessert was announced while we were taking some extended family photos and by the time we got to take a break and grab one of the oh-so-scrumptious desserts lining the TWO dessert tables, there were two crumbs left. Not even joking. Later in the evening I sat down at a table to rest for a minute and I happened to sit in front of a plate with a half eaten cupcake. Please believe that I stared that thing down and truly considered picking it up and finishing it off. Ha! I did not actually do it.

Aaaaannnnd…contra dancing! Great way to get people on the dance floor!Guys, this was a truly wonderful day! You celebrated well! Thanks for including us in your day (and thanks to your friends for the recommendation)–we were very glad to have been there! As family and friends take a look at this blog, please comment and leave your love and best wishes for the newlyweds. If you can collect 25 or more comments we will give Geoff & Katie a complimentary 11×14 print, of their choice. (**Please note, all comments must be approved so yours won’t appear immediately.**)
