Taylor & Beth

You know there aren’t a lot of good love stories coming out of Iraq these days. I listen to NPR often and it’s just not an angle they are covering, but maybe they should consider starting to offer a more balanced perspective of love and war. Right? Taylor and Beth met just prior to shipping out to Iraq–both are trained medical professionals working at a military base hospital in Baghdad. They hung out a couple of times stateside, but the majority of their dating life has happened within the confines of the base they know as home for now. After way too many months on duty, they got to spend a solid month of R & R outside the Desert, bouncing from West to East Coast with a few stops in between. It was a privilege to record a little bit of their time here!

This silhouette shot was worth posting again even if you already saw it once on the sneak peek!

I just love Beth’s genuine laughter in the background in these two… I can’t recall what she’s laughing at, but she has such a beautiful smile when she’s doing it!

Seriously people, this was not staged. She really did bury her hands in her face while Taylor proudly displayed his awesome t-shirt.

Glad you guys made a Newberg stop! Fun hanging out and doing this mini-session with you!

We LOVE a good series!

At about thigh high, the curious, talkative, sweet-toothed girl with the cute curls…Miss Ella

And the very well-matched parental figures of these two good looking kiddos…Rusty and Stephanie

We had a really fun time hanging out with you four–both times! So glad it worked out like it did and the Oregon weather was kind to us. You guys are doing a great job with those precious girls!

Rick + Christine + Ariy @ Six Months

Not everyone who experiences pregnancy gets to do it alongside a friend and co-worker, but it worked out that way for Christine and I. Our daughter, Sage, and her son, Ariy were due about 7 weeks apart from one another so we were able to check in with each other during the work day, comparing weird pregnancy symptoms and encouraging each other to try different things to help our ailments. We also made a point of meeting up about once every month or so to process together and swap notes on things we had been reading and learning. It’s been fun to keep connecting and watching each others kiddos change and grow, swap more advice, and hope that our kids become friends some day! Needless to say it was a joy to spend some time with the whole family and get a snapshot of Ariy at six months.

This baby girl is in for quite a ride–her three big brothers (who are part kid, part Energizer bunny) will keep her moving, or chasing after them, for a long time. They are a fun bunch and she is lucky to have each of them. She is going to definitely have to learn to keep up or these boys will be leaving her in the dust! They are each so different and it was such fun to hang out for a Saturday morning. The incentive for these kids was a delicious doughnut from the famous Portland shop, Voodoo Doughnuts. Let me tell you, parents, we are all about incentives when it comes to photo sessions with kids! The kids held to their end of the bargain and I’m curious to know what doughnuts they chose as their reward… Thanks Perez Fam for a fun time and thanks also to Pinky and Laura for use of their home and neighborhood!

Don & Heather

For Don and Heather there was no question about what the theme of their wedding would be–the only question was, “Do we bring the horses to the wedding?” The answer in the end was “Yes!” This was the first cowboy themed wedding either of us had been part of and the details of the day were very fun. We’re thankful to have gotten to know Heather through a group at our church and were excited for the chance to not only see her get married to Don, but to be part of her day in this special way behind the camera.

Having history with people makes life sweet and getting to be part of the present is even better. These guys go way back (well Nate and John do anyhow)…way back to middle school (yikes!), college, being in our wedding (Nate) and uncomfortably pregnant with their first baby (Kim) on a very hot August weekend. They are on their third son and are doing their best to savor the precious moments with *perhaps* the final addition to their family (you just can never be too certain about the finality of such things =)). What a pleasure to hang out with them twice between June and July and get to document a little bit of life as it’s happening right now.

Happy Birthday to the Grandmother of this clan! Again, we just love, love, love photography as a gift for family members celebrating anniversaries or birthdays or other important events. The four siblings pulled together and organized this birthday present for their mother–photos of the whole group and, most importantly, the grandkids!

Does anyone in the Portland area remember that awful Sunday morning in July when we looked out our windows and couldn’t believe how hard it was raining? Yep, that was our lucky day! These guys didn’t blink at it, but powered through and were flexible as we all did our best to stay dry and out of the torrential downpour. They even managed some awfully great smiles! As always, the kids stole the show. Thanks again to all the cousins who helped bring out the best smiles. You guys were so great! Let’s do it again some time…maybe when it’s sunny? =)

Oh my how time passes! Hard to believe this guy is one year old now. And what a cutie! Those big brown eyes are too much! He’s an active one, keeping his parents entertained and on their toes. Thanks for spending an early summer evening hanging out. It was great to see you again!
