Baby Macy

They say you can’t pick your family, but if we were picking, we’d pick these two, no question. Lucky us, they ARE family and dear, dear friends.

We enjoyed a brisk, damp January morning together capturing them in the last weeks before Baby Macy makes his/her appearance. They brought their own energy and ideas to the shoot and we had fun tromping around the wet field just across the street from their house. We have to give a shout out to our sidekick, Sage, who was along for the ride and was a grinning machine, encouraging some genuine laughter and smiles from her aunt and uncle.

The last nine months has been a joyous ride and I’d say they are ready to meet this coming baby–as are we! You guys have prepared so well and Baby Macy is going to be stoked to have you two as parents.

This family deserves a super-trooper award! None of them complained about the rain that had held off all day until, literally, the exact time that our session was starting. They didn’t let it phase them and they even had great attitudes about it! True Oregonians, these ones are! Not to mention, the woman carrying the baby, who was due at any moment, threw on her rain boots and kept a smile on the whole time.

We have really enjoyed getting the chance to capture new parents in the days and weeks before their babies come. It seems like a really special time as they are making the last preparations and anxiously waiting for their little one to arrive, holding their breath that all will be well. Despite being only a few days before their due date, the Taylors tromped around the grounds at Jenkins Estate with us and made being nine months pregnant look easy. Their little guy came about three days after our evening together and in the few weeks he’s been around is already a wonderful addition to their family who is loved greatly by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friday, May 7

Come one, come all! We are participating in this Friday’s Newberg ARTwalk, showing photographs at Pitter Patter Children’s Consignment. The display at Pitter Patter is in cooperation with local doulas, midwives, and a lactation consultant, Laura Dunn (who was kind enough to invite us to join in the event), who are highlighting International Doula Month and Pregnancy Awareness Month. Several interesting activities will be taking place during the evening including baby wearing demonstrations.

The ARTwalk-ing happens all over downtown Newberg and highlights local businesses, winemakers, musicians, and artists. It’s a fun community time and as the weather gets nicer it’s a great chance to get out and see what’s happening in our town.

Pregnancy is pretty amazing–I’m sure there are just as many women who would argue that it’s a wonderful experience as would hold their ground and say that it’s a difficult experience. Neither of us have ever been pregnant so we can’t join the debate, but as observers, we must say it’s always pretty incredible to think about the fact that a woman who is pregnant is carrying another life!

On Easter Sunday we got together with the Westervelt family to do what I like to refer to as “celebrating in photos” the upcoming arrival of their first child. They did a great job of showing us how they interact with their soon-to-be-born son which gave us the opportunity to capture wonderful real-life moments! See for yourself here and also on Facebook…

The Bonhams & Cami | maternity & adoption

The story of this family is emotion-filled and, unfortunately, too long to detail here. Simply put Cami was the birth mom of Rhonda & Steve’s adopted son, Gabriel (for more details, check out their blog). Rhonda & Steve wanted a photo shoot that would honor Cami as the birth mom and also show that it really is the three of them together who were on this nine month journey. We had a fun morning dragging them all around town, chasing the shadows on a very bright summer day. Five months later every one is doing great and adjusting to a changed life so well!
